Primary Clinical Features and Morphology

1. Scaly, erythematous papules and plaques.
2. Acute cases may weep and crust.
3. Xerosis is due to difficulty retaining skin moisture.
4. Bullae, vesicles, and round erosions may be seen.
5. Scratching leads to lichenification.

  Scaly, erythematous papules on face of an infant

  Scaly plaques on the toes with overlying yellow crusts and clear fluid

  Prominent xerosis seen in deeply pigmented skin

• 

  Severe eczema of the knee with large excoriations and vesicles

• 

  Lichenification on the arm associated with chronic eczema
