Primary Clinical Features and Distribution

Distribution usually involves the flexural surfaces, particularly the antecubital fossa (inner elbow) and popliteal fossa (inner knee), and the face and neck.

However, AD may occur at all body sites.

• 

  Hypopigmented lichenified plaques of the inner arms.

• 

  Flexural eczema with prominent lichenification, fissures, and superficial erosions.

• 

  Periorbital erythematous plaques with white scale.

• 

  Lichenified erythematous plaques on the neck and chest.

• 

  Eczema of the feet and lower extremities with lichenification and scattered fissures.

• 

  Hyper- and hypopigmented lichenified plaques on the hands and wrists.
